International Women's Day celebrations in Skövde

For Culture in Skövde the global International Women's Day is one of the most important days of the year. It is a day when culture has the opportunity to highlight the equal value of human beings and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

This year's theme is Inspire Inclusion, where the message is to inspire inclusion by celebrating diversity and promoting women's empowerment. The theme calls for breaking down barriers, challenging stereotypes and creating environments where all women are valued and respected.

To celebrate this day, Kultur i Skövde has put together a program where everyone is welcome and the events are free.

Towe Lindblom is a cultural producer at the cultural department of Skövde municipality and has helped organize the events.

- Inspire and include are important words for us in Skövde as we want to highlight the situation of women in Sweden and the world in many different ways. We do this through words, images, music and demonstrations," says Towe.

Events to mark the day

  • Konstmuseet i Skövde kulturhus: #5WomenArtists

As part of the National Museum of Women in the Arts' #5WomenArtists campaign, the Museum is dedicating one floor to five women artists. Project leader and art historian Cecily Ferguson will give a lecture in English on these artists' work in the context of a more inclusive art history.

  • Exhibition with opening from UN Women Skaraborg:

The association UN Women Skaraborg is organizing an art exhibition where the artworks are inspired by the UN Convention on the Rights of Women. The purpose of the exhibition is partly to inform about the UN Women Convention in a new way and thus get more people to think about gender equality and the rights of women and girls in the world. The aim is to inform and engage in issues of gender equality.
