We’re doing all we can to make you feel welcome. Skövde is a constantly evolving city. Every year hundreds of new recruits come to join the regiments and thousands of new students arrive to attend the university. Not to mention all the newly arrived talent relocating from near and far to join our expansive local companies. In recent years we’ve upped the pace considerably and are now building around 400 new homes a year. 

So, what’s your housing preference? Rural but close to the city, newly built, amidst the buzz of the city or near the rail station? You’ll find most options covered here. For those who want to live in a lively location, plans are under way for Skövde Science City, a unique new city-centre district with sustainable housing for a varied age range intermingled with business premises and innovative meeting places.

Nature and activities are so handy here that you can do more than you think in your lunch break. You can easily enjoy a mountain-bike ride on Billingen, a brief shopping excursion in the city, a visit to the art museum or cross-country skiing in winter. Most things are within easy reach, which makes life simpler. 

As a family, it feels safe and easy with pre-schools, schools and sports facilities within walking distance. More time for family, leisure and what you love basically. That’s the way we do things in Skövde.

Balthazar prepares young people with knowledge for the future

The future doesn't have to knock on the door of the Balthazar Science Center - it's already wide open. It prepares the future generation for the challenges and opportunities ahead. Dedicated educators who are passionate about their subjects in science and technology meet students of all ages here - from preschoolers and secondary school students to university students. On the same premises are Volvo's development department and the ASSAR innovation arena, which opens up for exciting meetings across age and competence boundaries.

On Billingen, the mountain literally at the heart of the city, you’ll find mountain-biking trails, pump tracks, high rope courses, running tracks and hiking trails. When winter comes and the temperature drops, we up the tempo a little. Billingen is an official Vasaloppet centre, with over 35 kilometres of cross-country trails worthy of elite skiers.

Mountain – check! What else does Skövde have to offer? Well, if there were a competition for the number of nature reserves, we’d definitely be on the podium. There’s a host of different nature areas, offering magical forests, open pastures, mountain landscapes and entrancing views.

No worries! We are the fourth largest labour market region in Sweden. A population of 250,000 live within a 50-km radius of Skövde and many of them commute to or from nearby towns and cities every day. You can travel from Stockholm in two hours, and from Gothenburg in one.

Love golf? Perfect, Skövde actually has three really great golf courses to choose from, with several other fine courses to visit in the surrounding area. And don’t be surprised if you meet elite players out on the course. They often play here.

Skövde has plenty of venues for creative meetings. How about Kulturhuset, Balthazar Science Center, Bahnhof co-working, Arena Skövde, Billingen, ASSAR Industrial Innovation Arena or the University of Skövde? Have we forgotten a venue? Probably. It’s difficult to keep track.
