Skövde is a vibrant place – home to residents keen to develop, expanding companies and a variety of clubs and societies that engage and inspire adults and children every day to come together and get active.
IFK Skövde Handboll is one of the leading local sports clubs, with 500 active young players ranging from six years old up to elite level. Alongside the players are a hundred or so dedicated trainers and coaches. They reached the national final in the 2020/21 season, to the great delight of the population of Skövde.
“We have a very committed fanbase, and countless individuals in Skövde have links to handball, whether as an active player, coach, dedicated parent or supporter. We are now gunning for the European Cup for the first time in almost 20 years,” says club manager Erik Sackari.
Game on
The club seems to go in for the concept of local talent in a big way, as the players for their elite team are largely recruited from local junior ranks.
“We take great pride in the fact that we successfully guide so many good young players through to the elite squad,” says Erik.
Who hasn’t heard of the Skadevi Cup? Every year IFK Skövde Handboll put Skövde on the handball map when they organise the Skadevi Handbollscup, attracting around 350 teams from across Sweden and the Nordic region to Skövde on an annual basis. Well played!
