As the hub of Skaraborg—Sweden’s fourth-largest labor market region—Skövde has a strong position as a growth environment for innovation. Through investments in international arenas for education, research, and development, Skövde has taken on a leading international role in production technology, IT, and game development. This is clearly evident in the number of growing companies, startups, and new businesses. The city is also a meeting point for defense, industry, and innovation, with military units, the FMV’s test site, and the Army Combat School all located right here.
Skövde is located near Sweden’s major markets and has good infrastructure, logistics capabilities, and transportation links. It takes two hours to get to Skövde from Stockholm and one hour from Gothenburg. And there is an abundant supply of labor and talent here, not least thanks to the University of Skövde and several vocational high schools that consistently provide businesses with skilled and motivated students. The region accounts for 35 percent of Sweden’s industrial research and development, 21 percent of Sweden’s industrial workforce, and 25 percent of Sweden’s industrial export value.
Is there land and space available? In Skövde, we are well-equipped to accommodate larger businesses, and Science Park Skövde is expanding with many more central and exciting spaces in the new Skövde Science City area, which is now taking shape. In addition, the former Locketorp airport site offers 308 hectares of industrial land with existing airport infrastructure and a permitted building height of 40 meters—something that is unique in Sweden.

Science Park Skövde is home to organizations such as Almi Företagspartner, IDC West Sweden AB, and Skaraborg Invest, which can assist by connecting you with venture capitalists, business angels, or helping you apply to financial institutions.
For anyone with a newly established game development company, there’s Sweden Game Arena, a community of exciting companies such as Coffee Stain Studios, Stunlock Studios and Iron Gate Studio.

Science Park Skövde supports and develops leading companies in the fields of Smart Industry, Fintech, and Game Development. Sweden Game Arena is a community consisting of both professional game developers and students from Sweden’s largest video game development program at the University of Skövde. ASSAR Industrial Innovation Arena is a hub focused on new solutions for industry through education, innovation, and research. Skövde is also participating in the preliminary project for DefenceXLab, a neutral arena for civil-military innovation designed to reduce the lead time from identified need to operational solution to less than one year.
In Skövde, there is a strong focus on the production technology of the future, and several companies specializing in vehicle electrification are based here. The surrounding region also boasts the Nordic region’s most comprehensive expertise in propulsion, powertrains, and backup power. For those of you working in the industry, there are therefore several relevant networks available. How about a robotics network focused on automation and technology, a CEO network, or a network for virtual commissioning? These networks exist to help companies grow and to strengthen local competitiveness.
The expertise behind Skövde’s gaming companies, IT firms, and industry can also be applied to total defense. The university’s research in simulation, modeling, and video game development meets the need for training military units. In-depth expertise in software, AI, and cybersecurity can be used to develop robust command and control systems and protect critical infrastructure. The industry’s experience with powertrains, electrification, and lightweight construction can be applied to vehicle platforms, field equipment, and backup power, and with the Swedish Armed Forces and the FMV’s test sites nearby, there is an opportunity to conduct testing close to the end user.
